PDF Alati (pdfalati.com – "alati" means "tools" in Serbian) is a set of free online tools for working with PDF documents. Our goal is simple: merging, splitting, compressing, signing and converting PDF files should be fast, easy to understand and safe – without installing software, without an account and without a subscription.

Why we built PDF Alati

Almost everyone deals with PDFs every day: invoices, contracts, certificates, applications, theses, bank statements. Many existing services limit the number of free tasks, require registration or upload every document to remote servers. We wanted tools with clear instructions that respect the privacy of their users.

Privacy as a core principle

Most of our tools – merging, splitting, extracting and removing pages, rotating, organizing, page numbering, watermarks, signing and conversions between PDF and images – run directly in your web browser. Documents are processed on your device and are not sent to our server. Only compression, password protection, unlocking and Word, Excel and PowerPoint conversions require server processing; in that case the file is sent over an encrypted connection and deleted right after processing.

Technology

We use proven open-source libraries and programs trusted by millions of users: pdf-lib and PDF.js (which also powers Firefox's PDF viewer) for in-browser processing, and Ghostscript, qpdf, LibreOffice and pdf2docx for server processing and office document conversion. The site uses HTTPS exclusively.

Free for everyone

All tools are free with no usage limits. Server and development costs are covered by advertising, which is clearly separated from the tools and never has access to your documents.
