Encrypt confidential documents
Payslips, contracts, medical results, tax returns, price offers – many documents we email contain sensitive data. An email can end up in the wrong inbox and a laptop or phone can be lost. A password on the PDF ensures that only someone who knows it can open the document.
Protect PDF encrypts the document with AES-256, the strongest encryption the PDF format supports. Without the correct password the content cannot be read. Protected PDFs open in all common programs – Adobe Acrobat Reader, Chrome, Edge and Firefox, and readers on phones – after asking for the password.
Choosing a good password
- Use at least 10–12 characters with a mix of letters, numbers and symbols.
- Avoid birth dates, names or ID numbers.
- Never send the password in the same email as the document. Send it by text message or tell it over the phone.
- Store the password safely – if you forget it, neither we nor anyone else can recover it.
Processing security
Encryption is performed on our server with the proven open-source tool qpdf. The file and password are sent over an encrypted HTTPS connection, used only for processing and deleted immediately afterwards. The password is never written to any log.
